OWNERSHIP & FUNDING
The ELIDZ was set up to respond to the need for a robust catalyst for economic development and industrial diversification in the country. The organisation is part of the South African government’s Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Programme and is intended to develop, operate, and maintain modern purpose-built infrastructure while attracting strategic investments into the region.
The ELIDZ is wholly owned by government and its shareholding is as follows:
- 74% Department of Economic Development Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT)
- 26% Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM)
The ELIDZ funders:
- The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition’s SEZ Fund for Capital Projects
- The Department of Economic Development Environmental Affairs and Tourism for operational costs.
