Electricity and water
Electricity costs in the Eastern Cape are the second cheapest in the world. All factories in the area are supplied with 3 phase electricity at 220/380volts.
The national energy supplier, Eskom ranks in the top 10 internationally in terms of sales and size. Eskom supplies approximately 95% of South Africa's energy requirements and around two thirds of the continent's needs.
Eskom's network consists of over 300 000 kilometres of power lines, 27 000 of which form the country's national transmission grid. The energy sector contributes around 15% to the country's gross national product (GDP).
Water is of a high quality and can be consumed directly from taps without further treatment.
