Agro-processing
The Eastern Cape is suitable for a wide variety of agricultural processes, due to its temperate climate and year-round rainfall. The province is South Africa’s main livestock province and provides circa 30% of the country’s wool and 80% of its mohair. Dairy farming provides approximately 20% of South Africa’s production of milk.
The province has an estimated 120,000 ha available of land for plantations. Sawmill activities account for 23% of the country’s forestry and logging production.
The East London’s agro-processing cluster has three sub-sectors:
-
Biofuels;
-
Food processing; and
-
Timber processing.
