Visas
Some countries are exempt from visas while others need to apply.
Temporary residence permits
There are various types of temporary residence permits ranging from a tourism permit to a work permit.
Employers can apply for intra-company temporary permits or residence work permits if the employee is required to work in
South Africa for less than 24 months and is being transferred from a branch or subsidiary abroad (this permit cannot be renewed).
The employer can also apply for the general temporary residence work permit if the position has been advertised and did not attract qualified local persons, or if the employer from abroad qualifies under the critical skills list or exceptional skills category. The applications for residency permits are a lengthy process and as such must be done in good time.
The East London IDZ has established an executive desk within the Department of Home Affairs in order to facilitate the expedient processing of permits for EL IDZ investors. For assistance contact Investor Services on +27 43 702 8200.
